About OC LORACS
OC LORACS offers planning and implementation of projects where conservation of water, soil, and biodiversity are a priority. Long-term health and sustainability of the land is promoted by engaging land-owners and local community with the process and with the benefits provided by healthy ecosystems. Adaptability and place-based cultural knowledge and practices are key to long-term success of people and the ecosystems they inhabit. OC LORACS speaks for the trees and for future generations of life.
The logo depicts a scene where acorns and a mushroom sprouting under an oak tree form the shape of a face. The two eyes are coast live oak acorns. The pupils are the reflection on the shells of the acorns of the silhouette of a mature coast live oak. The sides of the face are formed by the radicles (taproots) of the acorns. The nose and forehead are formed by the mushroom. The hyphae of the mushroom spread out to connect with the roots of the acorns in a symbiotic mycorrhizal relationship, forming the shape of a beard. The image symbolizes at once how humans are shaped by and a part of the ecosystem, as well as a message of hope in the eyes of the acorn, that they will mature into healthy old oaks.
OC LORACS stands for Orange County Low-cost, Optimal, Resourceful, Artful Conservation Services. There are two general pricing options for projects: Functional (just get ‘er done) and Artful (more care, intention, and artistry). Both are lower-cost than most companies would offer. Services and designs are optimized to the client’s needs and ecological function. Resourcefulness is often involved by using on-site or recycled materials. Artful patterns with natural patterns are used in installations. Conservation is a focus of the work.
